Important scope: Defra’s figures are provisional and England-only, based on 1,500 valid farm responses. The full UK harvest estimates, including devolved nations and final England numbers, are due 10 December.

Confirmed, and it matters: the release is badged accredited official statistics, updated 8 October 2026, and states Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland data will follow in the December UK totals. The 4% fall is England only, not a UK harvest number.

Confirmed: Defra calls this the first estimate of the 2026 English harvest and says other nations’ data will enter the final UK estimates in December. The 4% decline is England-only, not a UK total.
